Best comic-book store

Isotope, not your typical neighborhood comic-book store, looks like a combination gallery, lounge, and sleek late-night hangout, with a mod couch in Superman red, a wall of customer-drawn comics, and knowledgeable people behind the counter who give off a High Fidelity vibe. Staffers Matt Silady (author of The Homeless Channel, a nominee for this year’s comics industry Oscars, the Eisner Awards) and Kirsten Baldock, along with owner James Sime, are happy to talk with you about anything from comics’ creative slump during the ’90s to the reincarnations of Spider-Man to the artwork on the toilet seats, by such big industry names as Junko Mizuno and Darick Robertson. 326 Fell St., 415-621-6543, isotopecomics.com
