Only a Caltrain's ride away from yoga in a four-star hotel.

Scott Hocker

Doing yoga in San Francisco, you grow accustomed to staking your claim amid a sea of mats and backhanding your neighbor mid–sun salutation. Still, if you’re like me, you can’t help but imagine a yoga experience with plenty of room to move, someplace far enough from everyday life that you can actually do what the teachers are always suggesting: still your mind. Word came to me that such a thing exists, in a swish package at the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley. Check it out: a Friday overnight, two yoga sessions, a spa treatment, and a nice late checkout to allow you plenty of time at the pool, starting at $300 per person for double occupancy. In theory, a yoga retreat at a luxe hotel with rooms that look out over the East Palo Alto IKEA may sound like a misguided exercise, but after trying it myself (and, I’m not going to lie to you, loving it), my new philosophy is that there’s nothing wrong with paving the road to mindfulness with four-star luxury.

Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley Luxury Wellness Escape: Available the second Fri. and Sat. of every month, $350 and up per person, double occupancy $600, including room, two classes, spa treatment, and late checkout. 2050 University Ave., East Palo Alto, 650-566-1200, fourseasons.com/silicon valley. Schedule: Mar. 14 Pilates, Apr. 18 yoga, May 16 expectant mothers, June 20 pilates.
