One place where you probably wouldn’t mind being trapped is the new home-furnishings and clothing store BellJar. A former art director for Levi Strauss and Gap, owner Sasha Wingate knows what she’s doing, and it shows; she fell in love with collecting while following her mother around the Marin City Flea Market as a girl. Not only does the boutique feature clothing lines like Los Angeles–based Mike & Chris and movie-star favorite Jovovich-Hawk, but the stunning home-design elements (almost all for sale) stay true to their hipster origins: A curving, baby-blue-velvet sitting couch gushes Hollywood glamour, and Italian bar soaps are displayed in a moss-filled clawfoot tub.
